Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are reportedly poised to take advantage of a significant price drop in their pursuit of Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
Journalist Ben Jacobs suggests that Brentford have reduced their asking price for the England international from £80 million to a more affordable £45-£50 million, boosting the chances of a transfer before the summer window closes.
Toney’s impressive performances have attracted interest from several top Premier League clubs, with Tottenham particularly keen to strengthen their forward line under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
The club is actively seeking additional attacking options and has been monitoring Toney closely, with reports indicating a potential formal approach on the horizon.
However, Tottenham may need to offload Brazilian forward Richarlison to make room for Toney, both financially and within the squad. Meanwhile, Manchester United, who have also been linked with Toney, may be less urgent in their pursuit following the arrival of Joshua Zirkzee and the presence of Rasmus Hojlund in their ranks.
Adding to the speculation, Jacobs revealed in an interview with talkSPORT that Toney is open to the idea of running down his contract and leaving Brentford on a free transfer next summer, putting pressure on the club to sell now rather than risk losing him for nothing.
As the transfer window heats up, Tottenham appear to be in a strong position to secure Toney’s signature, with Brentford eager to close a deal. The coming weeks could see significant developments in this transfer saga, with both Tottenham and Manchester United keeping a close watch.
