Postecoglou’s Best XI for Bayern Clash: Dragusin Starts, Udogie Benched

Here’s a preview of Ange Postecoglou’s strongest Tottenham lineup for Saturday’s friendly against Bayern Munich at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in South Korea.

Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season preparations ramp up this Saturday as they take on Bayern Munich in South Korea. Having secured victories in their four pre-season friendlies against Hearts, QPR, Vissel Kobe, and Team K League, Ange Postecoglou’s squad now faces a sterner test against the Bundesliga giants.

This match is the first of two encounters between the teams to close out Spurs’ pre-season campaign before the Premier League season kicks off. Following Saturday’s clash at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, the two sides will meet again at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a week later.

Notably, Bayern Munich will be without Harry Kane, who was recently linked with a move to the German champions, while Tottenham will see Eric Dier face his former club for the first time since his January transfer to Bayern. As for Tottenham’s starting XI, Postecoglou is expected to make some adjustments following their midweek victory over Team K League.

Tottenham has faced challenges at center-back throughout the summer, but Radu Dragusin is likely to start after his substitute appearance against Team K League. Additionally, Destiny Udogie might make his first appearance of the summer, based on Postecoglou’s post-match comments to SPURSPLAY on Wednesday.

However, there are still questions regarding the fitness of Ashley Phillips and Richarlison, who missed the Team K League match. Changes in midfield could also be on the cards, possibly leading to Lucas Bergvall moving to the bench for the match against Bayern.

So, what does Postecoglou’s strongest Tottenham lineup look like for the Bayern clash? Here’s a closer look at the potential starting XI.

Guglielmo Vicario

Guglielmo Vicario continues in goal as ever for Tottenham.

Pedro Porro

Pedro Porro will maintain his place at right-back with Djed Spence an option from the bench for Tottenham.

Emerson Royal

Emerson Royal will be hoping to keep his place in the Tottenham team against Burnley
Emerson Royal will likely continue at centre-back for the time being as Spurs are still lacking some numbers in the middle with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven away.

Radu Dragusin

Ben Davies

Ben Davies of Tottenham Hotspur during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal FC at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 28, 2024 in London, England.
As well as Jamie Donley did at left-back last time out, the return of Radu Dragusin could see Ben Davies shift over to his natural role. Ange Postecoglou did admit in his SPURSPLAY interview after the Team K League game that hopefully Destiny Udogie “comes back into it in the next few days” following his injury absence.

Spurs will not want to push the Italian too much if fit and that may mean he starts the Bayern game on the bench.

Yves Bissouma

Yves Bissouma started on the bench against Team K League but you would imagine he comes in at the base of Tottenham’s midfield.

Archie Gray

Archie Gray has caught the eye for Tottenham in pre-season so far this summer
Archie Gray will now have the opportunity to get some experience under his belt in Tottenham’s midfield after previously operating at centre-back. Due to his versatility, the youngster could possibly play a little more advanced as a No.8 after starting as a No.6 vs Team K League.

James Maddison

James Maddison believe Ange Postecoglou's style of football is going to bring success to Tottenham Hotspur
James Maddison will be hoping he comes into the starting XI in place of Lucas Bergvall.

Brennan Johnson

Brennan Johnson of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on February 10, 2024 in London, England.
Brennan Johnson was quiet in the Team K League victory and needs to follow it up with a strong performance against Bayern. While you could make a case for Timo Werner to start after his assist, the German is more at home on the left rather than the right side, thus giving Johnson another shot in the starting XI.

Dejan Kulusevski

Dejan Kulusevski has impressed in the central role in Tottenham’s front three of late and will be the favourite to start there once again.

Son Heung-min

Son Heung-min was in fine form down the left flank in the win over Team K League. A repeat performance and he could cause Bayern a number of issues.
