Celtic launch another transfer raid to sign striker as defender closes in on move

Celtic has renewed their efforts to sign Norwich City striker Adam Idah, according to recent reports. The Scottish Premiership champions previously had a £4 million bid rejected by Norwich, despite manager Brendan Rodgers expressing a strong desire to bring last season’s loanee back on a permanent basis. However, it was revealed on Thursday evening that Celtic has submitted a fresh offer for the 23-year-old forward, who scored nine goals in 19 appearances during his loan spell, including the winning goal in last season’s Scottish Cup final against Rangers, which made him a fan favorite.

The Daily Mail reports that Norwich is holding out for a deal worth at least £6 million for the Republic of Ireland international, who still has four years remaining on his contract at Carrow Road. Despite new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup indicating that he sees Idah as part of his first-team plans, it is understood that the player is keen on a return to Celtic. Idah’s preference was further highlighted last week when he missed Norwich’s flight to their pre-season camp in Austria, leading to potential disciplinary action.

Rodgers has made Idah his top priority in the search for a new striker, with Kyogo Furuhashi currently the only recognized No. 9 in Celtic’s senior squad. After losing young forward Rocco Vata to Watford last month, Celtic is eager to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer window closes on August 30. The addition of Idah would be a significant boost for the team, which has already secured the signings of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and midfielder Paulo Bernardo, who, like Idah, spent last season on loan and is expected to make his second debut in Sunday’s Premiership match against Hibs at Easter Road.

As Rodgers looks to fortify his squad for both the upcoming title defense and their Champions League campaign, he is also preparing for the possible departure of star midfielder Matt O’Riley. O’Riley has attracted interest from several clubs, with Brighton and Hove Albion joining Chelsea, Southampton, Atalanta, and Atletico Madrid as potential suitors. Celtic is reportedly holding out for a fee exceeding £20 million.

In other news, defender Dane Murray is close to securing a loan move to Championship side Queen’s Park. The 21-year-old has been plagued by injuries during his time at Parkhead, and a season-long loan is expected to provide him with much-needed playing time, according to the Daily Record.
