Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Johan Lange are working to assemble a formidable squad for Ange Postecoglou as the summer transfer window approaches its final weeks.
Spurs have already made significant moves, most notably the £65 million signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. But what could Postecoglou’s starting XI look like if Levy and his team secure a few more key signings before the window closes?
Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario
No changes are needed in goal. Guglielmo Vicario, who arrived for just £17 million from Empoli last summer, quickly established himself as one of the standout signings of the season, excelling in his debut Premier League campaign.
Defense: Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie
Despite conceding over 60 goals last season, Postecoglou seems satisfied with his defensive unit. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven bring speed and solidity to the center-back positions, while Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie provide an attacking edge from the full-back spots. It’s no surprise that Tottenham haven’t made any defensive signings this summer.
Defensive Midfield: Yves Bissouma, Jacob Ramsey
The departure of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and the expected exit of Giovani Lo Celso have intensified competition for places in Tottenham’s midfield. Although the young Archie Gray has been added to the squad, the 18-year-old may need time to adapt, and Spurs are reportedly keen on securing another star midfielder before the transfer window closes.
In early July, Tottenham made an ambitious player-plus-cash offer involving Lo Celso for Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey, though Villa was reluctant to part with their prized academy graduate. While a deal for Ramsey would likely require a substantial fee, the prospect of pairing the 23-year-old with Yves Bissouma could be too tempting for Levy to ignore.
Attacking Midfield: Eberechi Eze, James Maddison, Son Heung-min
Eberechi Eze has attracted significant interest following Michael Olise’s move away from Crystal Palace earlier this summer. Spurs are reportedly leading the race for the talented winger, who has netted 21 Premier League goals over the past two seasons and earned a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad.
James Maddison was a standout performer for Postecoglou last season, especially in the early stages, and with quality players surrounding him, he could continue to be a key playmaker. Solanke’s arrival would allow Son Heung-min to return to his preferred position on the left wing, where he has consistently excelled.
Striker: Dominic Solanke
Expectations will be high for Solanke, who, after a period of uncertainty, has rebuilt his reputation with a series of impressive goal-scoring seasons at Bournemouth. He will face stiff competition from Richarlison, Timo Werner, and even Son for the central striker role, while players like Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski will also be vying for opportunities in the attacking lineup.
If Levy and Lange manage to secure these additional signings, Tottenham could head into the new season with a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
