‘Best version of himself’ – Postecoglou happy with Bissouma after his first Spurs goal

After watching his team deliver a dominant performance and secure all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was asked about Yves Bissouma’s role in the victory. Postecoglou had positive remarks, especially considering the challenging week the midfielder had endured.

### A Standout Performance from Bissouma
The big talking point before the match was the return of Yves Bissouma. The midfielder had missed the season opener against Leicester City due to an internal suspension imposed by the club for his use of laughing gas.

However, with Rodrigo Bentancur sidelined with a concussion, Bissouma was given an opportunity for redemption and was named in the starting lineup by Postecoglou.

It didn’t take long for the Malian international to make his mark. Just 14 minutes into the game, Bissouma received the ball at the edge of the box and launched a powerful shot past Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal, scoring his first competitive goal for Spurs.

Bissouma’s impressive performance didn’t end with the goal, and he left the pitch with his head held high.

Speaking to the press after the match (via Football.London), Postecoglou was asked about Bissouma’s situation. He expressed his satisfaction with the midfielder’s display, acknowledging that there is still room for improvement. He said: “Biss was good, and we know Biss is a good footballer. It’s about him being the best version of himself, and he will only get there if, as we’ve spoken a few times, discipline is a big thing for him. I thought it was a disciplined performance for him today.

“Not just the goal he scored, but he had a really important job for us. He knew they’d sort of play fairly direct, and he had to be there to mop up second balls and intercept things, and he was clean for the most part in possession. So, good performance.”

### A Step Toward Redemption?
This performance will have gone a long way in restoring Bissouma’s standing with the Spurs manager. Bissouma is likely the first-choice central midfielder for Postecoglou, but he will need to continue working hard to maintain his place.

Whether he retains that spot once Bentancur returns remains to be seen, but today’s performance certainly won’t hurt his chances.
