WATCH: Willie Nelson’s Son Lukas Stuns Performing Eric Clapton Cover

Lukas Nelson, son of the legendary Willie Nelson, continues to make waves in the country music scene, especially while touring with his father during the Outlaw Music Festival. However, it’s a video from the past that has once again captivated listeners, featuring Lukas performing a unique cover of an Eric Clapton classic. His rendition showcases his distinct style while honoring the influences that shaped his music.

Lukas, born on December 25, 1988, to Willie Nelson and Annie D’Angelo, performs with his band, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real (POTR), a country rock group formed in 2008. Recently, a video of Lukas paying tribute to Clapton has resurfaced, gaining renewed attention. On TikTok, user @joycetaylor09 shared the performance, captioning it with “More Lukas Nelson, Because I can,” capturing the sentiment of many fans eager to see more of his work. The footage, taken years ago, shows Lukas performing “Before You Accuse Me,” a tribute not only to Clapton but also to his earliest musical inspiration.

Reflecting on his encounter with Clapton, Lukas recalled, “I got to meet him one time, and I was so inspired and scared, I didn’t know what to say. I just ran and gave him a hug. I must have been 10 years old, and I think he had a cold, but he hugged me back. Around that time, he released his ‘Unplugged’ record, so I thought this would be a good song to cover.”

As he forges his own path in music, Lukas continues to honor the rich history of the genre. His acoustic version of “Before You Accuse Me” pays homage to the original, written and recorded by Bo Diddley in 1957. The song has been covered by numerous artists, including Creedence Clearwater Revival and Clapton himself, who recorded both acoustic and electric versions of the track, with the latter reaching number nine on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks in 1992.
