REPORT: Steve Sarkisian agrees to contract extension with Texas

Brett McMurphy of Action Sports is reporting that Steve Sarkisian and the University of Texas have agreed on a contract extension. The extension comes after Sark declined two interviews with teams in the NFL.

McMurphy says UT Board of Regents chairman Kevin Eltife & AD Chris Del Conte were key figures in getting the deal done, “The fact Sarkisian didn’t take any NFL interviews shows his buy-in & commitment to the University of Texas,” a source told McMurphy.

The new deal is reportedly a seven-year contract that adds a year to his existing deal and makes him one of the highest paid coaches in college football.

Sarkisian has guided Texas to a 38-17 record in his four seasons in Austin. After going 5-7 in his first season at the helm, the Longhorns improved their win total by three in 2022 and reached the CFP for the first time in program history last season after winning the Big 12 title. Texas’ season came to a close with a 28-14 loss to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl last week.
