Ange Postecoglou has hinted that Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signings may not be finished, even after securing a club-record deal for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke. The 26-year-old forward joined Spurs in a £65 million transfer, strengthening Postecoglou’s attacking options.
Respected journalist David Ornstein reported that Solanke was Postecoglou’s top target within the club’s budget, following a season where the striker netted 21 goals in all competitions for Bournemouth. Tottenham acted swiftly to close the deal after learning of Solanke’s strong interest in the move.
Following Tottenham’s 3-2 friendly loss to Bayern Munich on Saturday, Postecoglou expressed confidence that Solanke would be ready to face Leicester City next Monday, despite a minor toe injury before the transfer.
When asked if Solanke would be fit to play, Postecoglou responded, “I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be in a position to play against Leicester. He’s done most of pre-season. There was a slight knock in Bournemouth’s last game, but we’ll assess him this week. Considering his pre-season workload, I expect him to be available.”
Postecoglou also spoke about Solanke’s journey to becoming Tottenham’s new record signing, praising the striker’s resilience. “He’s had to work his way up, and I always think that’s a good thing,” said Postecoglou. “If a player’s career is all positive, you wonder how they’ll handle setbacks. Solanke faced challenges early on, but he pushed through, which speaks to his character. He’s only 26, about to turn 27, and I think those early challenges will drive him to have impactful years ahead.”
With Solanke on board, Postecoglou hinted at further transfers before the window closes. “There’s still time in the window, and I think there will be more activity,” he said. “We’re looking for players who fit our style of football. While there will be some adjustment, the goal is to bring in players who can contribute immediately.”
Tottenham’s Pursuit of Kyle Walker-Peters
One name that continues to be linked with a return to Tottenham is Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters. Reports suggest that Spurs are ready to activate their £30 million buy-back clause for the 27-year-old, who played a crucial role in Southampton’s promotion from the Championship last season. Walker-Peters, who can play on both the right and left sides of the defense, would provide valuable cover for Postecoglou.
The links to Walker-Peters have intensified as Emerson Royal’s move to AC Milan edges closer. After months of speculation, the Brazilian defender is set to join the Serie A club, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the deal is worth over £13 million. Emerson had previously rejected multiple offers before committing to Milan.
If a deal for Walker-Peters doesn’t materialize, Tottenham could rely on summer signing Archie Gray as cover for Pedro Porro at right-back. The former Leeds player impressed as a half-time substitute in Tottenham’s recent clash with Bayern, his first appearance at his new club’s home ground.
With the transfer window nearing its close, it’s clear that Postecoglou and Tottenham are not done shaping their squad for the season ahead.
