Texas Longhorns football have landed one of the most coveted young running backs in the country, securing a major victory on the recruiting trail with the commitment of a dynamic prospect from Chandler, Arizona.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound playmaker attracted massive national attention during the recruiting cycle, collecting 37 scholarship offers from top programs across the nation. Among the schools heavily pursuing him were Arizona State Sun Devils football, the hometown favorite, and recruiting powerhouse Oregon Ducks football.
Despite the fierce competition, Texas and running backs coach Jabbar Juluke ultimately won the battle, adding another elite talent to the Longhorns’ growing 2027 recruiting class. The commitment is especially significant considering the player had previously pledged to Oklahoma before reopening his recruitment and taking several visits to Austin’s famed “Forty Acres.”
The Arizona standout first exploded onto the scene after rushing for more than 1,000 yards during his sophomore season. But as a junior at Basha High School, he elevated his game even further, proving he is far more than a traditional running back.
He finished the season with 761 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while averaging an impressive 6.6 yards per carry. Through the air, he became just as dangerous, hauling in 50 receptions for 562 yards and six touchdowns.
His ability to thrive both as a runner and receiver has made him one of the most intriguing all-purpose backs in the country. Coaches frequently lined him up in multiple positions — in the backfield, out wide, and in hybrid offensive roles — showcasing the type of “positionless football” that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian values highly in his offensive system.
In addition to his football talent, the rising star also brings elite track speed. He clocked an impressive 10.95 seconds in the 100-meter dash and competes on Basha’s 4×100 relay team, further proving the explosiveness that makes him such a dangerous offensive weapon.
The commitment marks the 10th addition to Texas’ 2027 class and continues the program’s recruiting momentum heading into a critical summer period.
The Longhorns are also preparing for major roster turnover at running back after losing significant talent through the transfer portal while bringing in several short-term options. That situation creates a clear path for young backs to earn opportunities in the coming years.
Roberts now joins a growing stable of future talent at Texas, following the arrivals of highly regarded running back Derrek Cooper and powerful local prospect Jett Walker in previous recruiting cycles.
For Texas fans, this commitment represents more than just another recruit — it signals the continued effort to build an explosive, versatile offense capable of competing with the nation’s elite for years to come.
