As of Wednesday afternoon, Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was still holding out in pursuit of a contract extension, a situation that has caught the attention of many, including Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay. On his “Big Play Slay” podcast, Slay offered Lamb some playful advice on how to navigate his holdout.
“I know you’re on the rival team, but if you want to hold out, hold out for each Eagles game,” Slay quipped, as reported by Chris Franklin of NJ Advance Media. “You can play everybody else, just hold out for each Eagles game. I know [Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones] cares about that game a lot because he doesn’t like losing to us, so just go out there and say, ‘I’m not playing against y’all.'”
The Eagles are set to face the Cowboys for the first time this season in Week 10 at Dallas’ AT&T Stadium on November 10. While Slay’s comments reflect his competitive spirit and anticipation of the matchup, there’s growing optimism that Lamb’s contract situation will be resolved before Week 1. Cowboys teammate Micah Parsons and several reporters have hinted that Lamb is likely to get his desired deal soon.
Slay also took a subtle jab at Jerry Jones, referencing the 81-year-old owner’s recent comment that he felt “no urgency” to finalize Lamb’s extension—a statement Jones later backtracked on. “I’m all for my man getting paid because he’s one of the best receivers in the league,” Slay said of Lamb. “For Jerry to sit here and say he’s not in a rush to get him situated is kind of crazy because he is one of your best players, and you’re not in a rush to get him his worth…I’m not going to lie to you, it would be hard for me to play for an organization like that—a place that is not willing to take care of its guys.”
Retired cornerback Asante Samuel also weighed in on the situation, suggesting during an ESPN Radio appearance that “something’s going on” with the Cowboys this offseason, despite Jones’ reputation for treating his players well. Slay, meanwhile, is likely hoping that whatever is going on in Dallas will work to the Eagles’ advantage come January 2025.
