Daniel Levy has a knack for sniffing out bargain signings, and while his negotiation tactics can sometimes be frustrating, they often prove effective. Conor Gallagher appears to be on the verge of a move to Atletico Madrid, but that deal is still uncertain.
In a discussion with ESPN, James Olley touched on Gallagher’s potential transfer to Madrid, suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur might not be out of the race just yet.
Olley hinted that Levy could be playing a strategic waiting game, potentially swooping in for Gallagher late in the transfer window. He mentioned that Tottenham’s interest in Gallagher has been longstanding, even though they haven’t seriously challenged other clubs like Aston Villa or Atletico Madrid in pursuing the player so far.
“The Conor Gallagher situation is intriguing,” Olley said. “Tottenham have been linked with him and have been monitoring him for a while. Every time a club like Aston Villa or Atletico Madrid has shown interest, Tottenham hasn’t made a serious move. But whether Daniel Levy is waiting for the last moment to secure Gallagher at a reduced price could be a masterstroke. It’s unlikely, but with Levy, you can never rule anything out.”
A late move for Gallagher by Tottenham would make a lot of sense, especially given Levy’s history with such deals. Plus, Gallagher is a player that Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou highly admires.
With the Atletico Madrid deal stalling, there’s still a chance Tottenham could enter the fray. Don’t be surprised if Spurs make a late push for Gallagher.
