Watford are in advanced negotiations to sign Yasser Larouci from ESTAC Troyes, according to The Athletic.
Larouci, who was on loan at Sheffield United last season, is being targeted by the Hornets as they prepare for the upcoming Championship season, where they will be competing alongside the recently relegated Blades.
Sheffield United, under Chris Wilder’s leadership, are aiming for a significant improvement after their brief and disappointing stint in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Watford, now managed by rookie boss Tom Cleverley, are hoping to embark on a new, more promising chapter.
While Watford has made some signings this summer, they still have a notable gap at left-back, which they are eager to fill.
Larouci, who is familiar to Championship fans from his time at Sheffield United, appears to be the player they’re focusing on.
Reports indicate that Watford is working on a loan-to-buy deal for the 23-year-old, similar to the arrangement that brought him to Sheffield United last summer.
Although Larouci struggled to make an impact in the Premier League, making just 13 appearances across all competitions, Watford believes he could thrive in the Championship. Before his move to England, Larouci featured 42 times in Ligue 1, showcasing his potential at ESTAC Troyes.
Aiming for Redemption
Larouci’s stint at Sheffield United was far from successful. Limited playing time and inconsistent performances meant he never secured a regular spot in the starting XI, ultimately leading to his departure. However, Larouci has shown his quality in France, and with the right support and a more settled environment, he could find success at Watford.
Watford is hopeful that Larouci’s experience in a top European league and his potential to perform better at a lower level will help them solidify their squad as they aim to regain their footing in the Championship.
Formerly a Liverpool player, Larouci seems like a strong candidate for the left wing-back position in Cleverley’s setup. Should the manager choose to alter the system, Larouci is also capable of playing as a traditional left-back, offering tactical flexibility.

Currently, James Morris is the only natural left-back in the team, making him an exciting prospect but also placing heavy reliance on him. Larouci’s addition would provide much-needed depth and experience to the position.
