“That’s dumb” – Novak Djokovic does not need to win 1 more Slam and overtake Margaret Court to say he’s the GOAT

Rennae Stubbs, former coach of Serena Williams, believes Novak Djokovic doesn’t need to chase another Grand Slam title to surpass Margaret Court’s record of 24 and solidify his status as the GOAT. Djokovic has already set numerous records, including 10 Australian Open titles, 99 career titles, and a record eight year-end No. 1 finishes. On “The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast,” Stubbs, 53, called Djokovic’s pursuit of a 25th Major title “dumb.”

“He has one thing left, and that’s the ultimate Grand Slam major record at 25. We have Margaret Court at 24, who won like 10 Australian Opens when nobody played, but he wants that record,” she said [28:45 onwards]. Stubbs continued, “Do I think he’s going to win the US Open? Absolutely. That’s the one record he still doesn’t have. But I think it’s dumb. He doesn’t need another Grand Slam to be considered the greatest, male or female.”

Stubbs emphasized, “I would say Djokovic is the greatest of all time. The numbers say so, and to me, he is the best,” echoing similar sentiments from other tennis experts.

Djokovic is the only male player in tennis history to have won all four Majors on three different surfaces, achieving a Career Golden Masters and a triple Career Grand Slam. At the recent Paris Olympics, Djokovic secured the long-awaited Olympic gold medal in men’s singles, making him the fifth player to achieve a career Golden Slam, alongside Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams. Djokovic will next compete at the 2024 US Open, beginning on August 26.

With 24 Grand Slam titles, Djokovic currently shares the record with Margaret Court, the first player in tennis history to reach this milestone. Despite this, Stubbs argues that Djokovic doesn’t need to claim a 25th Grand Slam title to surpass Court’s record and cement his legacy as the greatest.
