Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens wasn’t about to miss the opportunity to support his wife, Simone Biles, at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Owens secured permission from the Bears to leave training camp and fly to Paris, where he witnessed Biles’ incredible performance in person. She claimed gold in the team final, all-around, and vault, and took home silver in the floor exercise.
With Biles’ Olympic journey now complete (at least until a possible return in 2028), she’s ready to shift into what Owens playfully calls “football wifey” mode.
In a recent interview with Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network, Biles shared how she and Owens support each other in their respective athletic careers. She also revealed a surprising fact about the 29-year-old defensive back.
“I feel like he knows more about gymnastics than I know about football,” Biles admitted. “He’s very knowledgeable, kind of a nerd when it comes to that stuff. So, I just make sure to spot him on the field, and then whatever happens, happens. It’s such an unpredictable sport, so once I find him, I feel at ease.”
Despite a delayed flight, Owens made it to Paris in time to watch Biles compete. His social media was filled with posts and tweets, proudly cheering on his superstar wife, the most-decorated gymnast of all time, who is now just two gold medals away from tying the Olympic record.
“His support means the world,” Biles said. “We’ve been through so much together, not just as athletes but as a couple. Having him there, especially since he couldn’t attend Tokyo, meant everything to me.”
Though Biles’ transition from Olympian to football fan had a slight hiccup when she attended Owens’ preseason game in a Green Bay Packers jersey, things have since smoothed out.
As Biles wraps up her 30-city Gold Over America Tour around the middle of the NFL season, she’s expected to become a regular presence at Owens’ games.
