On Monday Night Football, the Philadelphia Eagles put senior assistant Matt Patricia in charge of calling plays for their defense over Sean Desai against the Seattle Seahawks, and it backfired.
After starting the night off looking strong, the Eagles lost 20-17 in embarrassing fashion to Seattle’s backup quarterback, Drew Lock.
The Eagles were up 17-13 in the fourth quarter with under two minutes left on the clock, but Patricia couldn’t keep the defense from crumbling.
Lock completed 5 of 10 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown on the final drive alone.
Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf was responsible for making back-to-back ridiculous catches before Jaxon Smith-Njigba reeled in the game-stealing touchdown.
The Eagles’ offense got the ball back with 28 seconds remaining on the clock, but Jalen Hurts and Co. couldn’t get the job done due to a huge interception by Seahawks’ safety Julian Love.
Lock finished the night completing 22 of 33 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Hurts was outplayed as he completed just 17 of 31 passes for 143 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. His 82 rushing yards on 13 attempts with two touchdowns also weren’t enough.
The Eagles thought they could use Patricia to fix their defensive woes, but things only took a turn for the worse.
With three straight losses now under them, the (10-4) Eagles will return to action on Christmas day to face the (3-8) New York Giants.
