The Washington Nationals are making significant changes after a disappointing 2025 season, but one person they seem interested in keeping is Matt LeCroy.

LeCroy, who has been managing the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings, has reportedly been offered a position within the organization — though the specific role hasn’t been revealed. According to Barry Svrluga of The Washington Post, LeCroy, a former Nationals player and longtime minor league manager, has received an offer to stay, but details on the job are still unclear.

LeCroy is well-liked in Rochester, known for his outgoing personality and leadership. When Davey Martinez was fired midseason, there was speculation that LeCroy might step in as interim manager. Instead, the Nationals promoted Miguel Cairo, Martinez’s bench coach, a move that frustrated some fans who felt it didn’t represent real change.

LeCroy’s name has also come up as a potential candidate for the full-time managerial role in 2026, thanks to his strong ties within the organization. However, Svrluga’s report suggests the team may be considering him for a position lower than MLB manager.

A former MLB catcher best known for his time with the Twins, LeCroy is part of a growing group of ex-catchers finding success as coaches. The Nationals clearly value his presence, but how they plan to use him going forward remains uncertain.
