Tottenham played host to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, but there was an issue in the early goings of the game with the officials unable to use VAR
The match officials in Tottenham’s Premier League match at home to Aston Villa were unable to access VAR images for an extended period.
Sky Sports broadcasters shared the development during their live coverage of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The issue affected the game inside the opening 15 minutes before eventually being rectified, though co-commentator Alan Smith asked whether a clash between Diego Carlos and Bryan Gil might have taken place “before VAR was up and working again”.
The Villa defender appeared to catch Spurs winger Gil with an arm, though no punishment was meted out. Sky would later say VAR was back in full operation around the 10-minute mark.
Spurs and Villa went into the game separated by just one point in fourth and fifth place in the league. The home side knew a win would take them to within a point of the summit, with Arsenal moving top thanks to a win at Brentford on Saturday.
