‘High hopes’… Alasdair Gold says Spurs think 19-year-old player could push James Maddison next season

Tottenham Hotspur have some bright young players coming through.

The likes of Alfie Dorrington and Ashley Phillips look like potential stars of the future, while Alfie Devine is really shining at the moment.

Devine has just been called back from his loan spell with Port Vale so he can test himself at a higher level, and Spurs have high hopes for this young man.

Indeed, speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has stated that Tottenham genuinely feel as though Devine could play a part in the first-team squad next season, believing that he could genuinely push James Maddison for a place in the team.

Devine could push Maddison
Gold shared what he knows about the teenager.

“There are such high hopes for him within Spurs and there’s a real feeling that next season, if he has a good season this season he could be a real Maddison alternative and someone to push him as this young player, and everything he’s done so far has matched the expectations,” Gold said.

Devine might just be the most exciting academy product Tottenham have had since Harry Kane.

We’re getting way ahead of ourselves, but if people within Spurs genuinely think he could push James Maddison next season, this is a special player.

Let’s not forget, Maddison was, by some distance, Tottenham’s best player this season when he was fit, and if they think Devine could get even close to that level next season, he is a superstar in the making.

This young man is just 19 years old, and he’s already being earmarked as someone who could potentially rival one of the best footballers in the country for a place in this Spurs team.

Fingers crossed Devine can develop in the way Spurs expect him to, because he sounds like a real talent.
