Liverpool insiders reportedly believe that rumoured midfield target Matheus Nunes has the potential to one day become a top-level player.
According to Goal, the Portuguese international has been heavily tracked by Liverpool this season having signed for Wolves last summer from Sporting Lisbon, with Nunes already tipped to leave Molineux amid growing interest from Premier League sides.
As per the report, Liverpool are one such club who could make a move to sign Nunes, who with a rumoured asking price of £55m would be quite the financial commitment for the Reds, something the Merseysiders could be cautious to make based on the midfielder’s form.
Nunes’ form with Wolves has been mixed in his first year in England despite the amount of interest the 24-year-old currently has. Yet with officials at Liverpool now thinking that the midfielder could one day become an elite player, a gamble could be made this summer.
Indeed, Liverpool’s intuition on players has provided more hits than misses in Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at the club. And although Nunes could be a risk, there’s every chance that the midfielder could solve a huge issue for the Reds ahead of the new season.

Nunes’ first year with Wolves has been a strange one. Yet even still, this has not put Liverpool off signing the midfielder in the slightest, and a move this summer could be an exciting risk from the club if they believe the 24-year-old can become an elite player.
Liverpool are no strangers to going against the grain with transfers and seeing them work out big time, and although Nunes might become as influential as a Mohamed Salah or a Virgil van Dijk, the midfielder could still be an excellent addition if he can hit the ground running at Anfield.
