Roberto Firmino has reportedly been in talks with Real Madrid over a potential move, with the Liverpool forward set to leave Anfield at the end of this season.
According to Sport, Los Blancos and the Brazilian international have held talks, with interest growing rapidly in Firmino ahead of his Liverpool contract concluding at the end of this campaign, with Inter Milan and clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabian interested in the attacker.
As per the report, though, Firmino’s main priority is a move to FC Barcelona. But with Xavi Hernandez keen to bring back Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Liverpool forward is currently only being viewed as a Plan B for the La Liga champions.
One of the most beloved players at Liverpool in recent memory, Firmino’s next career move will be watched carefully by many Red supporters, with the majority hopeful that the South American star remains in Europa where can still compete in the UEFA Champions League.
Indeed, whilst Madrid might be an odd move for Firmino, Karim Benzema’s age and Los Blancos’ lack of a backup striker could make the departing Liverpool star an ideal option for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with La Liga also a division that could suit the attacker to a tee.
Firmino to Madrid could be a blessing and a curse for Liverpool
Liverpool are no strangers to facing off against Madrid in Europe, with the Spanish giants eliminating Jurgen Klopp’s side from the Champions League in the last three seasons, including the final last year. And as a result, Firmino making the move to the European juggernauts could feel like a betrayal.
However, there’s no denying that Firmino has the quality and that special aura to become a superstar at Madrid, a club every player on the planet wants to make a name for themselves at. And because of this, Liverpool fans could give the forward the benefit of the doubt should the move happen this summer.
