Liverpool: Schmadtke plots huge €157m three-signing raid on Bundesliga as ‘secret goal’ is revealed

Incoming sporting director Jorg Schmadtke reportedly wants Liverpool to sign three players from the Bundesliga this summer.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Schmadtke has agreed to become Liverpool’s new sporting director and Jurgen Klopp is understood to have taken a key role in his appointment.

Schmadtke is set to be busy this summer as Liverpool are preparing to overhaul their squad. James Milner, Naby Keita, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will leave when their contracts expire and one of their priorities is to sign at least two midfielders.

Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister and Chelsea’s Mason Mount are among their midfield targets but they are also expected to strengthen in other areas.

Schmadtke has previously been a sporting director at Wolfsburg and Hannover 96 so he has vast knowledge about German football. SPORTBild are reporting that he ‘has a list of Bundesliga stars in mind’ ahead of this summer.

The incoming Liverpool director is ‘hot for’ Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Daichi Kamada.

A move for Gravenberch is off the table as ‘Bayern do not want to let the midfielder go and they continue to believe in Gravenberch’.

Gvardiol meanwhile is ‘on the shopping list of almost every top club’. His ‘112 million release clause’ will become active in 2024 and it is noted that he recently admitted that he ‘dreams’ of playing for Liverpool.

“That would definitely be Liverpool,” Gvardiol acknowledged when asked who he wants to play for.

“I’ve watched a lot of Liverpool games with my dad since I was little and we covered every season in depth. It’s a club that has stayed in my heart.”

Neuhaus is a player who has been sporadically linked with Liverpool over the past couple of years. He is out of contract in 2024 and there is the feeling that he would be ‘ideal’ for Jurgen Klopp.

Given his contract situation, Gladbach would be ‘immediately willing’ to sell Neuhaus this summer and a fee of ’10 to 15 million euros is realistic’.

Finally, Kamada’s departure ‘seems a done deal’. Fabrizio Romano recently reported that he is ‘close’ to signing for AC Milan but according to SPORTBild, his ‘secret goal’ is to play in the Premier League.

The Japan attacking midfielder has grabbed 16 goals and six assists for Frankfurt this term and he is valued at €30m by transfermarkt.

A separate report earlier this week claimed Schmadtke may raid Wolfsburg as he is keen on snapping up centre-back Micky van de Ven.
