Reported Liverpool target Ruben Neves has turned down an approach from Arsenal, with the Wolves midfielder only having his eyes set on a move to FC Barcelona this summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Portuguese international has rejected a bid from the north London side, with Neves only wanting to join Xavi Hernandez’s side having made it clear this month that he will be leaving Wolves at the end of this season.
Valued at £44m according to Sport, Liverpool are also in the race to sign Neves as reported by 90min, though after this latest update involving Arsenal, it appears that the midfielder has firmly made up his mind on a move to Barcelona for next season.
With Liverpool keen to add at least three midfielders to the squad this summer, Neves could have been a great addition given his Premier League experience and his age. However, the call to Barcelona seems to be too strong for even the Anfield side to break.
Indeed, Arsenal being turned down by Neves should be a clear enough indicator that the Wolves star only wants to join Barcelona, and for Liverpool, this sign should be as clear as day to move on from the 26-year-old, even if he would be ideal for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Neves heading to Barcelona is a bitter blow for Liverpool
Neves has been one of the more underappreciated midfielders in the Premier League for some time, and for Liverpool, missing out on the Wolves man will feel like a bitter blow, especially with the former FC Porto star heading to Barcelona instead.
Although Xavi has led the Catalan giants to the La Liga title this season, there’s no denying that Liverpool have missed out big time on Neves, who could have been a perfect addition for the Reds in their quest this summer to rebuild their midfield from the ground-up.
