The Magpies had some fun on social media on Sunday at the expense of a former Premier League rival.
Newcastle United have taken a cheeky swipe at Leeds United as the Magpies continue to relive a memorable season at St James Park.
Whilst Eddie Howe’s side enjoyed a remarkable campaign that ended with qualification for the Champions League for the first time in two decades, Leeds have struggled at the other end of the Premier League table and suffered relegation into the Championship when they crashed to a heavy home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season.
That is all a far cry from the gritty and determined Whites performance that helped them claim a goalless draw at St James Park on New Years Eve, as the ‘dark arts’ many accused Newcastle of utilising throughout the season were used against the Magpies on their home patch.
With niggly fouls, players going down with injuries and time-wasting tactics, Leeds earned a point from their trip to Tyneside and were not shy in taking to social media to laud one moment that caused consternation at Gallowgate as Jacob Murphy become involved with Whites duo Mateusz Klich and Tyler Adams, who kicked two balls away from the winger as he tried to restart the game.
However, Newcastle used the social media post against the Whites as they reached December in their regular posts looking back at some of the best moments from their own season.
The Magpies referenced their warm weathing training camp in Riyadh, the Diriyah Season Cup win against Al-Hilal and the Boxing Day victory at Leicester City – but it was a reference to Leeds that will have raised a smile from many supporters that were left frustrated by the Whites at St James Park as Newcastle directly referenced the goalless draw with a ‘Don’t mess with Leeds’ comment and a laughing emoji.
