North Carolina Basketball Coach Ejected By Police After Angry Meltdown Caused Gut-Wrenching Bad Beat

UNC Asheville head coach Mike Morrell lost his temper during the closing moments of a tense, one-possession college basketball game against Western Carolina. He picked up a double technical foul and was ejected from the contest, which led to one of the worst bad beats in sports betting history.

It will make you sick to your stomach.

College basketball bettors who wagered on the ‘Under’ were in line to win their bets until there was less than one second left on the clock. The coach’s angry tirade proved to be a disaster.

Western Carolina beat UNC-Asheville.

The game between UNC Asheville and Western Carolina was tied at 73 with less than five seconds remaining. The Catamounts hit a three-pointer to take the lead with 0.9 seconds left on the clock.

Game (pretty much) over.

The Ramsey Regional Athletic Center exploded. It was an electric finish to an instant classic.

Bulldogs head coach was not quite as excited as the home crowd. Rather, the opposite.

Morrell thought the Western Carolina bench should’ve been called for a technical foul because one (or more) of its players ran onto the court to celebrate the game-winning triple. Technically speaking, he had a legitimate case. Players are not authorized to leave the bench area under any circumstances.

And yet, the technical foul was not assessed so Morrell proceeded to lose his mind.

His own players tried to hold him back during the tirade as he charged at officials. Their efforts were only successful in part. Morrell made himself very clear. He received a double technical foul and was escorted back into the locker room by an armed police officer after his ejection.

This is where the gambling side of things comes into the picture.

College basketball bettors were sick.

The total for UNC Asheville vs. Western Carolina was set at 152.5. ‘Over’ bettors needed the total to reach 153 points to cash their tickets. ‘Under’ bettors needed 152.

The Catamounts’ three-pointer gave them a lead of 76-73 for a total of 149 points.

Although the game would’ve gone to overtime if the Bulldogs hit a game-tying three at the buzzer, the chances of that happening were slim. The ‘Under’ seemed like a lock.

And then Morrell picked up the double technical.

Western Carolina got four shots and the ball. Cord Stansberry made all four free throws.

The Catamounts won the game by a final score of 80-73 for a final total of 153 points. The ‘Over’ hit. Under bettors lost their bet because of Mike Morrell’s outburst and four subsequent free throws.
