‘OVERHYPED’: TOTTENHAM SENT A WARNING ABOUT ANGE POSTECOGLOU AT CELTIC

David Tanner had some strong words to say about Tottenham Hotspur-bound Ange Postecoglou and his time as Celtic manager.

The Scottish football reporter claimed that he has ‘never known a more overhyped manager than Ange Postecoglou’ and this feeling that he ‘invented football’ – he is now set to take the reigns at Tottenham.

After winning the treble in the colours of Celtic this season, Ange Postecoglou is now set for a new challenge and Tanner added, what should ‘concern’ Tottenham fans is his record in Europe, as he told talkSPORT (4/06/23).

When the Greek-born Australian first walked into Parkhead, the club was in a mess, both on and off the field.

Steven Gerrard had just won the Premiership title with Rangers and they had just put a stop to the Bhoys’ previous dominance.

But that’s when Ange changed it all, he added vibrancy to Celtic’s style of play again, cool-headed authority and brought everyone together, although, for some, it feels a little over the top, as this warning was put out there to Tottenham.

“I think there is a lot of hype around Ange Postecoglou,” said Tanner. “He has been pained over as some sort of Messiah.

“Frankly, I have never known a more overhyped manager than Ange Postecoglou. He has done a terrific job, but he hasn’t reinvented football.

“There is this ‘Ange ball’, this high press. Every Celtic manager that has invented over the last few years, Jock Stein was doing it before any of them.

“In terms of what has to do better, and this is something that should concern Tottenham fans, is that Ange in Europe they have been awful. This season they picked up two points.”

Pressure on Daniel Levy with Ange Postecoglou’s appointment
The Tottenham chairman is going to need help from the other end and hope Postecoglou is able to start off quickly or show early promise.

For many Tottenham fans, they wanted someone like Julian Nagelsmann, but for one reason or another, it didn’t happen.

But perhaps bringing in someone that’s lesser proven than your Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte might just work.
