This was inevitable, wasn’t it? As sure as night follows day, the rumours of Kyogo Furuhashi joining Ange Postecoglou at Spurs begin.
After the Australian officially joined Spurs yesterday, the headlines have all been dominated by who is set to replace the former Celtic manager.
But as new names emerge almost hourly, at the back of the Celtic supporters’ minds we all knew that Ange would eventually set his sights on some of our players.
And according to a report in The Sun, Kyogo Furuhashi is set to become his first transfer target for his new club with Postecoglou expected set to trigger a £20m move. The report also suggests that the Celtic striker is being targeted by clubs from Italy and the Bundesliga.
Kyogo has been in red-hot form for Celtic this season. Scoring 34 goals in 50 appearances, the Japanese striker was pivotal to the club’s Treble success this season.
Overall, he has been a valuable player for Celtic since joining two summers ago. Vital goals in last seasons league cup final helped Ange Postecoglou to his first piece of silverware at Celtic. And that helped us kick on to win the league that season.
Kyogo followed that up with another double against Rangers in the league cup final this season to help retain the cup. He also scored big goals against our rivals in the Glasgow Derby this season to ensure a successful defence of the league title. Of course, there is no suggestion whatsoever that Kyogo is now unhappy at the club.
The Celtic striker recently admitted that he would like to stay as long as possible at Celtic after the club where presented the SPFL trophy at the end of May. Under contract until 2025, should Ange Postecoglou come calling, he will need to pay top dollar for a striker that he rates highly.
