Revealed: Mason Mount agrees £200,000-a-week deal after Liverpool deal hijack

Champions League football is a “big factor” in Mason Mount’s decision to join Man United over Liverpool, sources have told Football Insider.

This site revealed on Friday (2 June) that Mount has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils – although they are yet to agree a fee with Chelsea.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Mount will earn around £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford should a full agreement be found.

The England international is set to depart Stamford Bridge this summer after a breakdown in contract negotiations.

His current deal is set to expire in June 2024, and it is believed that Chelsea refused to cave to his wage demands and place him in the highest bracket of earners.

According to FBRef, Mount currently earns £80,000-a-week.

The Blues are keen to hand their stars longer-term deals on smaller wages as they look to cut costs following a mammoth transfer spend in the 2022-23 campaign.

Liverpool, Man City, Newcastle and Arsenal have all been credited with an interest in Mount – but it is Man United who are now closest to getting a deal over the line.

The midfield star scored three goals in 35 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign before his season was curtailed due to injury.

He is also a regular feature in the England set-up and made four appearances at the World Cup in Qatar amid 36 total caps for the Three Lions.

Man United will play Champions League football next season after securing a third-place finish in the 2022-23 campaign.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has already confirmed he is planning to add another striker in the summer window in order to reduce reliance on top goalscorer Marcus Rashford.
