Sadio Mané may seal surprise transfer amid Liverpool claim as Real Madrid has Kylian Mbappé plan

Liverpool Euro rivals round-up: Sadio Mané could be on the move this summer just a year after leaving Anfield while Real Madrid has formulated a Kylian Mbappé plan.

Liverpool needs to get the summer right when it comes to all aspects of the time between the end of one season and the start of the next, from the transfer window to pre-season plans.

Much of the groundwork has already been done heading into the summer, but there remains a lot that still needs to be untangled when it comes to who moves where and when.

Last summer, part of the rebuild was funded by the sale of Sadio Mané, but Liverpool does not have a similar asset to cash in on this time around with no obvious players to let go other than those who are leaving at the end of their deals or are set to bring in minor fees.

And Mané features in today’s European football round-up because of a story coming out of Germany about his future, with the ex-Liverpool star potentially making a return to England.

Here is the Liverpool.com take on some of the biggest stories around European football today, with Kylian Mbappé also among them as PSG prepares for a shake-up.

Sadio Mané transfer return
Former Liverpool forward Sadio Mané is being eyed up for a return to the Premier League this summer, with Bayern Munich hoping to sell the Senegal star along with Leroy Sané and Serge

That is according to BILD, with Manchester United and Newcastle named as possible destinations for the winger. Liverpool was also claimed to be an option but that will not be happening.

Liverpool.com says: Mané would like to stay at Bayern Munich, but the year has not gone well for him since he left, partly because of injuries. Selling Mané, Sané and Gnabry in one window would be a big ask in terms of finding replacements but having only won the Bundesliga by a narrow margin, Thomas Tuchel’s side needs big changes…

It would be a surprise to see him at Manchester United, but the Old Trafford side was interested in a move before he went to Liverpool. Newcastle also seems fairly unlikely given he is 31 and Eddie Howe’s side has generally been looking for younger talents.

Karim Benzema latest
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema— who scored three times in two games against Liverpool this season — has confirmed that he intends to stay at the Spanish giants this summer despite claims of a $341m (£344m/€400m) offer to play in Saudi Arabia.

“Am I going to stay? Well for now I’m here. It’s the internet that is talking and the internet is not reality,” Benzema said, according to the Daily Mail, while speaking at an event organized by MARCA.

If he does stay, that would mean Real Madrid would keep him until the end of his contract in 2024, at which point it would try and sign Kylian Mbappé from PSG. The Ligue 1 champions could lose Lionel Messi and Neymar this summer and then Mbappé a year later, which would represent quite the shake-up in terms of its talents.

Liverpool.com says: If Benzema does stay another year, that would help Real Madrid out in terms of being able to sign Jude Bellingham this summer and then Mbappé in 2024. Signing both in one summer would be a huge outlay, but things might be falling into place for the La Liga side.
