German Sky Sports journalist tweeted an update on Newcastle United’s pursuit of RB Lepizig’s Dominik Szoboszlai claiming that he is the number one target.
Hungarian international Dominik Szoboszlai has been on the radar of Newcastle for a while now with the Magpies having scouted the 22-year-old several times this season.
Now Phillip Hinze of Sky Sports Germany has issued an update via Twitter saying: “Szoboszlai update: There were talks between his agency & NUFC! Szoboszlai remains internal transfer target of the Magpies. €70 million clause + salary would not be a problem. But: Interest in Maddison continues. “Kill one deal“ possible. Open end.”
Talks have taken place between Newcastle and Szoboszlai’s agent
That tweet suggests that Newcastle will not pursue James Maddison if they manage to sign Szoboszlai this summer with the Magpies more than happy to stump up £60million to activate his release clause; they also believe that wages won’t be an issue.
A report from Nemzeti Sport in Hungary claims that Newcastle scouted Szoboszlai as recently as last week when RB Leipzig took on Bayern Munich.
Newcastle may need to move quickly
There’s not much to be said about Dominik Szoboszlai that hasn’t already been said. He’s an outstanding midfielder who can strike a dead-ball better than Kieran Trippier, which is saying something. Transfer insider Dean Jones has even claimed that Szoboszlai could be Newcastle’s ‘best player in their attacking lineup‘.
He’d be a magnificent signing for Newcastle and much like how he has for the club, he’s leapt over James Maddison as my priority target for the summer too.
After reports of talks with his agent this one looks like it’s moving rapidly towards the finishing line, but I feel that Newcastle will need to tie up the deal for Szoboszlai quickly before other clubs come knocking.
