Sources: Newcastle in advanced talks to agree bumper Bruno Guimaraes deal

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is set to agree a bumper new long-term contract at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Talks have been ongoing in recent months but it is believed the process will now be expedited now the 2022-23 campaign has reached a conclusion.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Guimaraes is close to landing a bumper pay rise after establishing himself as one of Europe’s leading midfielders since his move to Newcastle in January 2022.

The Brazil international, who turned out at the World Cup in Qatar, made 40 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign – notching five goals and five assists.

Guimaraes, who cost a reported fee of £40million, has spoken of his desire to become a “legend” at St James’ Park.

According to FBRef, he currently earns £120,000-a-week on his Magpies contract – which runs until June 2026.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that both player and club are “aligned” and “happy” amid rumours of interest from European giants.

Newcastle will take on Europe’s best clubs in the Champions League next season after finishing fourth in the Premier League.

The Magpies will enter the competition at the group stage in September and are likely to find themselves in Pot Four for the draw – the lowest-possible seed.

In addition to renewed terms for Guimaraes, Newcastle are also keen to hand centre-back Fabian Schar a new deal.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (30 May) that Eddie Howe’s side are likely to discuss a contract with Schar in the off-season – with his current deal set to expire in June 2024.
