Fabinho has raved about his departing Liverpool teammate Naby Keita.
Liverpool and Brazil international defensive midfielder Fabinho has spoken highly of Naby Keita on the club’s official website.
Fabinho has noted how good the Guinea international midfielder is and has outlined what makes him a special person.
Keita is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old is out of contract at the Merseyside club in the summer of 2023, and the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners have decided not to hand him a new contract.
Fabinho said: “I remember, Naby and I arrived together at the club. I remember the pre-season – he adapted much faster than me! He was playing since the first game against West Ham, he started that game and he was playing really well.
“I always loved to play with him because we understand each other really well, and we will miss him. Out of the pitch, Naby is something really special, really funny and nice to be around.
“Ox, since my arrival he struggled a little bit with injuries – when I arrived his knee was injured. But he was a really nice guy as well, nice to be around and nice to play together as well.
“He always said I don’t talk too much on the pitch but when I talk it’s because I’m right! So when I say something he says, ‘I just try to listen to you because I know you say something right.’ He is a nice guy and I wish the best for him as well.”
Naby Keita won’t be a big miss for Liverpool
While there is no doubt that Naby Keita is a very good midfielder, the fact of the matter is that he simply could not succeed at Liverpool.
Injuries did adversely affect the Guinea international, who never really got an extended run of games.
When Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did play Keita, he did not perform consistently.
Liverpool paid £48 million in transfer fees for Keita.
The midfielder was supposed to be a big success at Anfield, but he simply could not be.
It will be interesting to see which club Keita now joins.
We do not think that any club in the Premier League would be keen on the departing Liverpool midfielder.
