Writing in his blog, Richard Keys has been making the case for Harry Kane moving to Manchester United.
In Keys’ view, this is a move that would work for all parties.
The pundit says that Kane could be the last piece in the Manchester United jigsaw – a la Robin van Persie in 2013, while he also says that getting rid of Kane could give Spurs a new lease of life, similar to the resurgence United are having right now.
Meanwhile, the BeIN Sports anchor also noted that Kane looked lethargic against Aston Villa, stating that he looks like a player who wants a new challenge.
Keys discussed the merits of this deal for everyone.
“United need a centre-forward. Spurs have one that dominates the club – but that can’t win anything with them. So – surely it’s time for Spurs and Kane to try something different? He’d be a massive addition at Old Trafford. He might just be the missing piece in ten Hag’s jigsaw. He could be new van Persie – who won United a title almost single-handedly,” Keys wrote.
“I watched Kane closely during the Villa match. He looked lethargic. He twice gave the ball away in the build-up to Villa’s 2nd goal. He looked like a player that needs another challenge.
“Selling Kane might just have the ‘Ronaldo’ affect. How much happier do United look – as a collective – with their stroppy superstar now out of the door? Rashford looks re-born. He’s the main man again and loving it.”
NOT QUITE RIGHT
Keys does make some good points here, but it’s hard to see a world where Spurs improve without Harry Kane in the team.
Yes, he wasn’t at his best against Villa, but he’s by far and away the club’s top goalscorer this season.
The ‘Ronaldo effect’ as Keys likes to put it could be a very real phenomenon, but who is replacing Kane in this side, Richarlison? He hasn’t even scored a league goal yet for Spurs.
Tottenham should be giving it their all to keep Kane, not trying to sell him.
