Tottenham close in on £35million transfer as Antonio Conte makes demand to board

Tottenham are close to completing a deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro.

Antonio Conte has been chasing the Spanish right wing-back for some time and expects the North Londoners to seal a £35million move by the end of this week.

That will be the first signing in the January window that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is prepared to back his Italian coach in the transfer market.

Conte, out of contract in June, has made it clear he needs to strengthen his squad to maintain the progress made since he took over in November 2021.

Talks about an option to extend the ex-Chelsea and Juventus manager’s stay beyond this season are underway.

But part of the negotiation process, for Conte, is to see whether the club are willing to spend the cash required to take Spurs to the next level.

If you own a mouse, you will never turn off your computer again.

At the same time it could spark doubts over the future of both Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty in N17.

Brazilian Royal has struggled to convince the Spurs faithful that he is the answer in the right wing-back role while Republic of Ireland international Doherty has been hampered by injury.
