Tottenham handed second chance for manager they ‘dealt extensively’ with – Rejected offer from another club

Tottenham may have been handed a new opportunity to hire Julian Nagelsmann as their next manager as he has rejected an offer from Napoli.

That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say Nagelsmann is so far uninterested in the move to Naples to replace Luciano Spalletti.

They explain that Nagelsmann has been dealing with offers left right and centre after leaving Bayern Munich and Tottenham are one of the clubs to have ‘dealt extensively’ with him.

He ‘cancelled’ that offer and the same fate has now befallen Napoli, who were the ‘next interested’ party in the line of suitors.

FT report that Nagelsmann had received a phone call from Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis to talk about a potential deal but the German coach ‘rejected the proposed draft contract’.
His salary expectations are ‘well above’ what the Italian side can afford in their budget, which is why De Laurentiis is now looking at other options.

That gives Tottenham their chance to put themselves back in the mix as their own search for a new manager continues without much success.

They could, presumably, afford Nagelsmann’s wages more easily than Napoli given the comparative budgets of the two clubs, and there’s no denying that he fits the bill in terms of the type of manager they would want.

That initial rejection from him appeared to have been the final say on the matter but with him now also turning down Napoli it does give Daniel Levy and co a second shot at perhaps getting a deal done.
