Tottenham could rob five players from four suffering teams for Arne Slot rebuild

Arne Slot is reportedly Tottenham’s top target as they search for a new manager ahead of the summer transfer window.

Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is a leading candidate to become the new Tottenham manager following successful talks. The Dutchman will need to be backed this summer if he is to enjoy his debut campaign in the Premier League, with the Spurs squad lacking depth all over the park.

Given that Tottenham are still assessing their options to fill the sporting director vacancy after Fabio Paratici stepped down, it is unclear how the club will spend their funds. Spurs could be tempted to spread their available transfer budget by bringing in numerous players that may be available for cut-price fees.

Slot has shown a willingness previously to nurture talents, and he could believe that praying on clubs that have faced a relegation battle this season could be an efficient way of going about business this summer. Express Sport takes a look at five stars who Tottenham could target from this season’s strugglers…

Romeo Lavia – Southampton

Clubs are queuing up for the chance to sign Romeo Lavia and Spurs should definitely be involved. The Frenchman has impressed at St Mary’s this season with dominant displays in the centre of the park and has been a cut above the rest, with it feeling only a matter of time before he leaves Southampton in favour of a Premier League side.

Spurs are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements and have made an acquisition in that department a priority this summer. Several top-quality options will be explored, though Armel Bella-Kotchap could be an option that slides under the radar. The 21-year-old has struggled with injuries this season but showcased his class when remaining fit and it is hard to imagine Southampton will demand a significant fee for the German.

James Maddison – Leicester

A major overhaul is on the horizon at the King Power Stadium, regardless of whether Leicester City can survive the drop. The Foxes have underperformed markedly given the quality in their squad and James Maddison looks a likely candidate to take the step up and join a club competing at the very top level. Spurs have lacked creativity in the midfield for years and consistently failed to address that issue, though the acquisition of Maddison – who they are long-term admirers of – could provide solve the problem and be the spark in the centre of the park that Slot will desperately require upon his arrival.

Jordan Pickford – Everton

With Hugo Lloris appearing to have played his final game for the club, Spurs could look to pounce upon Everton’s struggles and prise Jordan Pickford away from Goodison Park – despite the England international penning a new deal at the club earlier this year. The former Sunderland star has kept the Toffees’ chances of survival alive single-handedly at times and could be a much-needed leader in the Tottenham dressing room.

Wilfried Gnonto – Leeds

Wilfried Gnonto has been a shining light in what has been a miserable season for Leeds and his spell at the club could come to a sharp ending with relegation. The Italy international has shown the versatility to play across the frontline and, aged 19, has the potential to develop markedly. Slot could deem the winger as the ideal acquisition on the wing and provide him with the energy and young flair that Tottenham lack in the final third currently.
