Report: The hefty transfer fee Spurs will pocket from Leicester for Oliver Skipp

As Tottenham Hotspur gears up for their season opener against Leicester City, it appears that the two clubs have reached a transfer agreement for midfielder Oliver Skipp. The 23-year-old is set to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and join Leicester City, marking a significant move for both Skipp and his new club.

Skipp, who had been contracted with Spurs until 2027, is expected to undergo a medical with the newly promoted Foxes later today, with the transfer announcement likely to follow shortly after.

Having come through Tottenham’s youth system, Skipp made his debut for the club in 2018 and has since accumulated 77 appearances for his boyhood team. Despite his early promise, Skipp found himself in a reduced role last season under Ange Postecoglou, primarily featuring as a substitute.

The £20 million transfer fee that Tottenham is set to receive for Skipp represents solid business for the club. Skipp will likely join former Spurs teammate Harry Winks in Leicester’s midfield, with Winks having made the move to the Midlands last summer.

Skipp’s decision to seek more regular playing time is understandable, and Tottenham has managed to secure a respectable fee for the midfielder. The timing of the deal suggests that it may have been finalized earlier, with Spurs opting to wait until after the transfer window opened to ensure that Skipp would not face his former club in Monday’s match.
