Disaster Strikes Again: White Sox Lose another Key Player to Knee Injury

White Sox Catcher Kyle Teel Suffers New Knee Injury During Rehab Assignment

The Chicago White Sox received more bad injury news involving top catching prospect Kyle Teel.

Teel suffered a tweak to his right knee during Saturday’s game while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. Doctors later diagnosed him with a sprained right lateral collateral ligament (LCL), an injury expected to sideline him for another 3-6 weeks as he undergoes rest and rehabilitation.

The setback happened during Teel’s final at-bat in his fourth rehab appearance.

It marks another frustrating delay for the 24-year-old catcher, who still has not played for the White Sox in 2026. Teel initially went down with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain on March 10 while representing Italy national baseball team in the World Baseball Classic. After spending months recovering, he had only recently started his rehab stint with the Charlotte Knights last week.

Chicago will now be without its top catching prospect for at least several more weeks, despite earlier expectations that Teel could rejoin the major-league roster soon.
