The Oregon Ducks have long benefited from strong recruiting ties to Hawaii, and that relationship could pay off again in the 2027 recruiting class.
Four-star linebacker Toa Satele revealed his final four schools Monday: Oregon, Texas, Cal, and Notre Dame. The Ducks are considered a serious contender for the standout defender from Mililani High School — the same program that produced Dillon Gabriel.
According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, Satele is the No. 68 overall player in the 2027 class and the nation’s fourth-ranked linebacker. At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, he remains one of Oregon’s top priorities and could quickly become one of the premier commits in the Ducks’ recruiting class.
California Golden Bears football and Texas Longhorns football appear to be Oregon’s toughest competition. Former Oregon assistant Tosh Lupoi has developed a strong relationship with Satele since joining Cal, helping the Golden Bears gain momentum in the race. Oregon will get the first official visit among Satele’s finalists on May 29 after he adjusted his visit schedule. He is expected to announce his commitment on June 20, shortly after wrapping up his final visit to Cal.
Satele is viewed as a versatile and explosive defender with the athleticism to excel in coverage or eventually transition into an edge-rushing role. His instincts and football IQ consistently stand out as he moves sideline to sideline making plays.
Football talent runs in the family for Satele. His father, Samson Satele, starred at Hawaii before being selected by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He went on to spend eight seasons in the NFL with the Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders franchise, and Indianapolis Colts.
Landing Hawaii’s top-ranked player in the 2027 class would provide a major boost for Oregon’s recruiting efforts, especially after the Ducks recently slipped to No. 10 nationally following four-star cornerback Ai’King Hall flipping his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes football.
Oregon already holds commitments from linebackers Sam Ngata and Brandon Lockley Jr., but Satele would instantly rank among the top talents in the class. Only five-star quarterback Will Mencl and four-star edge rusher Rashad Streets are currently rated higher in Oregon’s 2027 group.
