Spurs set to lose another transfer target to Premier League rivals as Chelsea make move for midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur have lost out to fellow English club Brentford in the pursuit of talented teenager Antonio Nusa, and now, they face the possibility of losing another target to their London rivals.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently confirmed Tottenham’s ‘genuine’ interest in Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton, stating that Spurs are leading the race to sign the player.

However, Chelsea have reportedly entered the competition and could make a move for the Spurs target before the January transfer window deadline.

According to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Chelsea have decided to join the race alongside Tottenham and Crystal Palace in the pursuit of Wharton and have sent their sporting director, Paul Winstanley, to watch the midfielder in person before potentially submitting a bid.

Valued at around £25 million, the defensive midfielder has already seen Blackburn reject a £19 million bid from Crystal Palace for his services.

The England U20 international extended his contract in December, committing to the club until June 2028.

The 19-year-old has been a regular starter for Blackburn, making 26 appearances and contributing two goals along with three assists.

Known for his precise passing ability, Wharton ranks third in terms of through balls in the ongoing Championship season, according to Fbref.

TBH Says:

Fans were not left please with the club for allowing Brentford to snap up Antonio Nusa and they will be further disappointed if another talented midfielder is allowed to join their Premier League rivals.
