Cristian Romero Clarifies Tottenham Future Amid Real Madrid Transfer Enquiry

Real Madrid reportedly contacted Cristian Romero’s representatives back in June, but the Tottenham vice-captain has made it clear he’s not leaving this summer. Romero has expressed his commitment to winning a trophy with Spurs.

Despite the Champions League winners’ interest, Spurs have no intention of selling Romero, who is a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans. Even a substantial offer would likely be rejected, as the club is not open to transfer discussions.

Romero, who still has three years left on his current contract that runs until the summer of 2027, reassured fans of his dedication during an interview with Argentinian TV.

He told ESPN F90, “I always strive to play at my best. I have a lot of respect for Tottenham. They’ve always given me a lot of support here, so I like playing here. I don’t think about other clubs or their possibilities.

“I know there’s a lot of talk about a possible move, but I’m calm. At my club, I play differently than with the national team, more forward. I still have years left in Europe and I want to see where I can go. Hopefully this year we can win a title at Tottenham.”

Tottenham’s backline might still see some changes before the transfer window closes. AC Milan continues to pursue right-back Emerson Royal, and Postecoglou hinted that Djed Spence could remain at the club after loan spells with Leeds United and Genoa. Spence has impressed during pre-season and might take Emerson’s place if he moves to Italy.

Tottenham have considered several right-back options, including AS Monaco’s Vanderson, though reports linking them to Manchester City’s former Luton Town loanee Issa Kabore appear inaccurate.

In terms of offensive reinforcements, a striker remains a top priority for Spurs this month. Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke is among the key targets. Meanwhile, Richarlison is expected to stay at the club despite interest from the Saudi Pro League. Tottenham also has eyes on attackers Eberechi Eze and Pedro Neto, though both would likely command fees around £60 million. The club has yet to pursue a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
